Maggie Merritt – Owner, John Merritt Homes
From an early age, Maggie Merritt developed a passion for building, first sparked at ten years old when she helped her father construct a barn. After graduating early from Boerne High School, she spent time working with a renowned horse trainer back East before returning to Texas to pursue a degree in Construction Science at Texas A&M University.
Following graduation, she joined John Merritt Homes as a site supervisor, gaining hands-on experience in custom home construction. Over the years, she advanced through various leadership roles, eventually taking ownership of the company in 2014. Under her leadership, John Merritt Homes continues to set the standard for craftsmanship, innovative design, and unparalleled quality.
Residing on acreage just south of George’s Ranch and Bergheim, she enjoys the beauty of the Texas Hill Country with her family and a barn full of horses—a reminder of her roots and the values that shape every home the company builds.

John Merritt – Founder
With over 30 years of experience as an engineer and executive in a Fortune 500 energy company, John Merritt developed a deep appreciation for precision, innovation, and quality—principles that became the foundation of John Merritt Homes. In 1999, he relocated his family to the Texas Hill Country and turned his passion for building into a legacy of crafting exceptional custom homes.
Although he officially retired in 2014, John remains involved in the business as needed, continuing to provide insight and guidance. His dedication to bringing clients’ visions to life remains as strong as ever. Today, he takes great pride in seeing that same passion for craftsmanship and client experience reflected in Maggie, ensuring that John Merritt Homes continues to uphold the highest standards of excellence.
Ricky Leslie – Chief Operating Officer
Rick is an Army Veteran thriving in luxury custom home construction. With 20 years of experience in the Army, including 10+ years of distinguished service in Special Operations, leading and coordinating complex missions and projects, Rick has seamlessly transitioned into leading and managing high-end residential projects for John Merritt Homes. Rick has a keen eye for detail and a strong commitment to excellence in luxury custom home building. Rick excels in team building, organization, and leadership. Known for a hands-on approach, candor, and maintaining strong client relationships, Rick ensures every home is built with uncompromising quality—on time and on budget. From concept to completion, Rick’s leadership, integrity, and attention to detail ensure that each client’s vision is fully realized, transforming dreams into reality.
Jonathan Ovando – Project Manager
Jonathan is a Project Manager at John Merritt Homes, bringing a unique blend of field experience and thoughtful leadership to every custom home project. Jonathan began his career on a cornice crew and as a framer, where he developed a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and attention to detail—values that continue to shape his work today. With a strong focus on workmanship, site cleanliness, and client satisfaction, Jonathan ensures each project reflects the highest standards of quality and care. Known for his approachable style and clear communication, Jonathan makes sure client needs and expectations are upheld directly on the building site, where every detail and decision contributes to the success of the home. Jonathan’s commitment is clear: provide exceptional customer service and build luxury custom homes defined by quality, elegance, and durability.
Maegan Townsley – Office Manager
Maegan brings over a decade of experience in the countertop fabrication industry, giving Maegan a deep understanding of how precision, clear communication, and strong partnerships contribute to exceptional custom homes. As Office Manager at John Merritt Homes, Maegan plays a key role in supporting clients throughout the building journey—helping them navigate design choices, finishes, and details that define the character of their home. Known for warmth and professionalism, Maegan makes complex decisions feel simple and ensures clients feel confident every step of the way. With 34 years of experience in the interior design industry, Lara Miller is a highly respected expert known for her sophisticated approach to luxury home design. As the owner of LLB Interiors, she has earned numerous accolades for her ability to blend timeless elegance with innovative functionality.
Lara has collaborated with John Merritt Homes for over 25 years, bringing clients’ visions to life through expertly curated interiors that enhance both aesthetics and livability. Her design expertise played a key role in John Merritt Homes’ entry in the 2017 Parade of Homes, which was honored with the prestigious People’s Choice Award.

Susan Willis – Luxury Real Estate Specialist
With over 20 years of experience in real estate and custom home sales, Susan Willis brings a deep understanding of the luxury home market and an unwavering commitment to client satisfaction. She began her career in Alabama, working with several custom home builders, where she was responsible for client relations, marketing, and sales. After relocating to the Texas Hill Country, she quickly established herself as a trusted real estate professional, assisting buyers and sellers in finding their perfect homes.
Now an esteemed agent with Kuper Sotheby’s International Realty in Boerne, Susan has been a key member of the John Merritt Homes design team for over 13 years. Her expertise in the custom home industry allows her to guide clients seamlessly through the home-buying and building process, ensuring that each home is a true reflection of their vision.

Sally Cowan – Bookkeeping
With over 25 years of experience as a financial professional and business consultant, Sally Cowan brings a wealth of expertise in accounting, process optimization, and operations management to John Merritt Homes. Her keen attention to detail and strategic approach helps ensure the company’s financial efficiency and operational excellence, allowing the team to focus on delivering exceptional custom homes.
Outside of her professional role, Sally is deeply involved in her community. She enjoys performing music with a local band and dedicates her time to youth and women’s outreach through her church. When she’s not working or volunteering, she loves traveling around Texas with her daughters and granddaughter, embracing the beauty and culture of the Lone Star State.
