Energy Efficiency and Features at JMH

We build every home to meet or exceed Energy Star standards. Or homes incorporate green building techniques addressing lot development optimization, resource efficiency, energy efficiency and interior air quality.

  • We will design to save you money now and down the road while protecting the environment.
  • We will incorporate the latest advances in homebuilding materials, products, trends & design ideas.
  • Let us show you the amazing features available to you in your new custom JMH house.

 Examples of energy-saving features include:

Zip System sheathing with taped seams for a water and air infiltration barrier.
  • Zip System replaces OSB sheathing covered with house wrap. The Zip System uses a sheeting that has a breathable coating applied that is a barrier to water entry. The panel joints are taped to form an impermeable total-house water and air infiltration barrier.
Spray foam insulation eliminates air infiltration and moves the conditioned envelope to the roof, improving AC efficiency.
  • Spray foam on the underside of the roof deck and in the exterior walls has two main advantages over conventional wall/ceiling batt or blown-in insulation; 1) totally eliminates air infiltration and associated humidity and dust into the building envelope and 2) by moving the conditioned envelope from the walls/ceiling to the walls/roof, the air conditioner blower/evaporator and all ducting is taken from the hot attic to a simi-conditioned space. This allows the air conditioner to operate much more efficient saving run time and also allows the system to downsized 20% saving on upfront A/C cost and monthly operating cost.
Humidity removal through a humidistat and variable-speed air handlers or a dehumidifier for comfort.
  • Advanced humidity removal done one of two ways; 1) add a humidistat to the thermostat and use variable-speed air handlers that can run at slower speeds to remove humidity without dropping the temperature at the same time, and 2) installing a dehumidifier with it’s own blower and humidistat. When we’re hot it is often from high humidity. For comfort we usually like 50-55% humidity.
2x6 exterior walls allow for additional insulation, reducing heat loss.

2” x 6” exterior walls reduce heat loss by providing the cavity for additional insulation

  • Superior windows make all the difference. All windows use Low-E glass, a virtually invisible glass coating, optimized for our climate, that helps block the sun’s harmful UV rays. Frames are insulated with foam creating a tight seal and blocking temperature transfer. The windows are flanged and taped to make a tight seal in the wood framing. Most of our homes feature Anderson or Pella windows.
